When SwiftView is somehow prevented from displaying browser-based documents, a red X will appear in the upper corner of the viewer. Here are some common causes & fixes for this issue:
- Ensure that the SwiftView plugin is installed
SwiftView installs itself onto the system’s default browser. If the user then changes to a different browser, SwiftView will not function on it. Have the user view the document with the default browser, or reinstall SwiftView after setting their desired browser as default. - Add the document’s site to Trusted Sites
Open the Internet Options menu, click on the Security tab and select Trusted Sites. Click the Sites button and add the document’s website to the list. - Disable Protected Mode
Open the Internet Options menu, click on the Security tab and uncheck Enable Protected Mode.
NOTE: Check with your IT department before doing this. They may have policies in place regarding Protected Mode. SwiftView is not responsible for any issues or damages caused by disabling your internet security measures. - Run the browser as an administrator
- Run the browser in compatibility mode
- Allow active content
Open the Internet Options menu, click on the Advanced tab and scroll down to Security. Check the “Allow active content to run files on my computer” button.
