Product data management

Approximately 35 HP divisions around the world have purchased SwiftView in support of HP's internal Product Design Management System (PDM), the main repository of HP internal technical design information. PDM is based on HP's WorkManager product. SwiftView is used to view HPGL, PCL and TIFF documents and drawings called using standard WorkManager techniques. TIFF files were created by scanning microfiche of older documents and drawings. SwiftView enabled HP corporate personnel to stop supporting fiche as a format. HPGL is derived from internal HP ME10 CAD systems via the "MI" format. PCL is derived from a host of HP-UX and Microsoft Windows based applications.

HP sites are now purchasing SwiftServe in support of "no license" SwiftView. This configuration enables easy support of large numbers of Windows based PCs in particular, with drawing and document access under control of Netscape Navigator.
