About the Company and Product
This medical product manufacturer is a division of a large international electronics company and a leader in diagnostic imaging
and patient monitoring products. The product is an electrocardiogram (ECG) management solution for cardiologists,
ECG departments, hospitals, etc., that automates the processing and storage of ECGs, communicating with Web clients, faxes,
and printers.

The Challenge
The product developers needed a simple way to make ECG data available on-screen, which was both quicker and did not require paper.
"We needed support for graphic displays - PCL 4+ with vectors (HPGL data inside the PCL)," explains the product manager.
"Because the accuracy of the waveform image has diagnostic significance to clinicians, we also needed to assure that the on-screen
display would have the same fidelity as paper, in this case, 300dpi or better. Of course, this also meant that the display
had to be able to zoom and pan and preserve that fidelity."

The Solution
In late 1999, the product manager chose SwiftView. When compared to other PCL viewers, it offered many benefits, including
support for embedded vector images in PCL, full fidelity of 300 dpi on screen (now 600 dpi), text extraction for indexing
information in files, as well as features such as SwiftView's easy-to-program API called the Image Command Set (ICS), and features
like the 'Find' button, which make it easy to locate a particular page in a patient record by keyword.
Initially, the company licensed SwiftView for its customers, but soon decided to embed SwiftView into their heart-monitoring system.

Results
"SwiftView was the right viewer right from the start, and it still serves us very well," says the product manager. "Clinicians
appreciate being able to quickly see exactly what would have printed, with the full fidelity of paper output - and the ability to
zoom in and make it even bigger!"
