America First Credit Union
For over 60 years, America First Credit Union (AFCU) has served residents of the five counties
along the Wasatch Front Range in Utah: Box Elder, Weber, Davis, Salt Lake, and Utah, as well as
federal employees and their families in Cache, Wasatch, and Washington counties. AFCU was looking for
a way to send closing documents that was secure, easy to understand, easy to use, and easy for
recipients to utilize.

The Challenge
As a credit union, America First Credit Union (AFCU) is bound to provide its services in an economical
manner that benefits members. AFCU was looking for a way to send closing documents that was secure,
easy to understand, easy to use, and easy for recipients to utilize.
Like most mortgage companies, AFCU had always used title company couriers to pick up closing
documents and had mailed and faxed mortgage documents to credit union members. When they heard about
SwiftSend LoanDocs®, they became interested in the possibility of speeding up service and saving
money.
The Solution
After AFCU began testing and evaluating SwiftSend, they spoke with title companies about it and learned
that other companies had been using SwiftSend to send packages. "We chose SwiftSend because it was easy
to learn and it works well with our LOS. Our title companies also like its ease of use, which encourages
us to use it," says Catherine Wiberg, mortgage operations systems administrator.
AFCU had considered sending encrypted PDF e-mail attachments for their closings, but knew it would take
too much time to train staff to create the PDF files, encrypt them and send them. "We wanted to be sure
our Credit Union members and title companies could easily decrypt the attachments. That was a potential
difficulty if we were distributing encrypted application packages in PDF to our members," notes Wiberg.
AFCU had no trouble getting SwiftSend started. "We set up and began testing SwiftSend within one week
of completing a demonstration via conference phone call and we've used it on a regular basis ever since."
Because much of their business is in a very close geographical area, AFCU still uses title company couriers
for some of their deliveries. They are considering training mortgage loan originators to use it to send
loan application packages and other documents to the credit union members.
The Results
AFCU now sends over half of their loan closing packages via SwiftSend. "SwiftSend has saved our
closers time, and they are very happy with the speed," says Wiberg. "They like that title companies
receive the closing packages almost instantaneously." AFCU is also happy that changes can be made
where and when necessary, and sent by SwiftSend so couriers don't need to rush to get packages
delivered. Finally, Wiberg notes, "It also saves us paper."
