SwiftView can easily be configured to put markup,
annotations or 'redlines' on all drawings. For example, to keep
track of different versions, you might want the date automatically printed
on all your documents. This is easily done using ICS commands, see
"
the technical FAQ". To take this a step further we can also make
the markup dependent upon the directory that the document is in. How
would this help? Suppose you kept your documents in directories
called "controlled" and "released" or perhaps "in_progress" and
"finished". Changing the markup on a document is as easy as moving
the file to a new directory. To implement this at your site, you
will need to make changes to your website configuration file (npsview.ics)
or your standalone configuration file as documented in the
SwiftView manual.
The following examples use the the same HPGL file, click here to view the example file cycylobutane.hpg
without markup. This file has different markup
depending on which directory it is in. Below, we made two directories one called "released"
and one called "controlled" and put different config.ics files in each
directory. View the HPGL file from both directories to see the difference. In actual
use, there would be only one copy of the HPGL file, and to change the markup you would just move
it to a different directory.
